A SLURRY WALL FOUNDATION FOR A HIGH-PROFILE SEAPORT PROJECT

Treviicos is playing a role as foundation contractor in one of the Seaport District’s most prominent projects to rise on the “Parcel M” lot. The Echelon Seaport project is a mixed-used development of three 20-story towers totaling 1.3 million sq. ft. extending over 3.5 acres. When completed in 2020, Echelon Seaport will include 733 residences featuring luxury amenities and 125,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurant space centered around a new pedestrian mall and new courtyard.

Treviicos was called in to build the 104-panel slurry wall foundation spanning 2,164 linear feet, with 30” thick walls and a maximum depth of 92 ft. for a total of approximately 135,000 sq. ft. Local ground conditions at the site consisted of urban fill, sands, Boston blue clay and argillite bedrock.

One of the key challenges of the project was that the existing tunnel of the Silver Line subway bisects the site, and the slurry walls had to be placed within 7 ft. of the subway tunnel box. To safely install the slurry walls, Treviicos has selected soil mixing technology, using this method to further stabilize the ground conditions along the Silver Line tunnel. Bracing and tieback installation has started, and the job is proceeding with completion set for the end of 2017.
