TREVIICOS HELPS TO EXPAND MIT CAMPUS

TREVIICOS is the foundation contractor for the MIT Kendall Square Initiative SoMa Project in Cambridge, Mass.

The project is an ambitious mixed-use development that encompasses construction of five buildings containing housing units, educational, office and retail space and three underground parking garages beneath them.

A challenging task Treviicos was awarded a wide range of foundation work, including 200,000 sq ft of diaphragm wall, 30,000 sq ft of load bearing elements and 5,000 sq ft of secant piles developing around the major MIT campus expansion.

Among the challenges faced on this project, the utilities running across and adjacent to the site have highly conditioned site logistics and positioning of machines, forcing operations to be constantly re-sequenced and rescheduled to maintain the productivity of three clamshells and two hydromills.

With over 70 workers on site in addition to many pieces of equipment, safety, as always, is key concern. Zero incidents have occurred to date thanks to a detailed Safety Always attitude and a detailed Safety Program implemented from Day 1.

With the good progress taking place, job completion is anticipated by early December 2017.
