The project is located at the corner of Seaport Blvd. and East Service Rd. in Boston, MA.
The 21-story building (of which 3 underground) will be used for parking, offices and retail spaces. The foundation work consisted of a 36” thick Slurry Wall (SW) and Load Bearing Elements (LBEs) for top-down construction of the garage structure which includes three levels of underground parking. The slurry wall has both temporary and permanent functions as, respectively, support of excavation and foundation wall.
The slurry wall and LBEs were constructed through layers of fill, organic and marine deposits (sand, silt, gravel); numerous made-made obstructions were encountered. Part of the slurry wall was installed as close as 3ft from the MBTA Silver Line tunnel.
